Agencies

Here are the twelve agencies that are “designated sponsors” of au pair programs by the U.S. Department of State. Remember, each agency is different and choosing the right agency for your needs is very important–more about that in an upcoming post–but the critical, ongoing match is between the family and the au pair!

  1. My goodness, that are a lot of agencies! To be honest, I am glad I do not have to choose anymore.
What I, as a not needed au pair mom, would like, is more stories also from your perspective as a mom who hired an au pair for her children. I loved your True to life story.

  2. Thank you! I will be happy to oblige that request!

  3. Hi! I just found your blog and think it is wonderful! I wanted to let your readers know about my website, http://www.aupairclearinghouse.com, the nation’s first and only consumer resource on the au pair industry. We review and rate all 12 agencies and we also provide articles, tips and advice on au pairing. We conduct ongoing host parents surveys to review our agencies. Check us out to see which agency host parents rated Number One and which agencies didn’t make our Top Three Au Pair Agencies for 2010!

  4. Great blog! I really enjoy reading your posts….what a wonderful resource for host families. Perhaps you would like to add The International Au Pair Exchange to your list of agencies? We are the 13th federally designated au pair program (as of June 2010) and focus specifically on placing au pairs with qualified host families in California, Oregon and Washington.

  7. What a fantastic blog. I honestly wish that more host families would post their experiences – because hosting is an experience!

  8. Thanks so much. It has been really fun to write this blog, and I honestly learned quite a bit about au pairs and simple life-family management in the process. I suggest it to anyone who likes to write and finds herself in the situation of a host mom, although in my experience moms seem pretty reticent about sharing this information. That may be because the nature of life is to focus on the negatives. One of the things I tried to do here is show the many positives of the au pair experience.

Hope to be back once in a while – but not until May 2012 when I finish a new teacher training program (yoga). Who knows, maybe one day I can offer a yoga workshop for au pairs? :)
